Capsule Geology

The area of the LC 2 showing is hosted in quartz monzonite and monzonite, of the Paleocene to Eocene Sloko-Hyder Plutonic Suite which occurs at the boundary of a Middle to Late Triassic quartz dioritic pluton. Dike-like mass of diorite intrude the monzonites. These are intruded by a series of narrow feldspar and quartz feldspar porphyry dikes, probably related to Sloko-Hyder intrusions. All the rocks are intruded by numerous narrow feldspar porphyry and mafic dikes. Foliation within the quartz monzonite is evidenced by the orientation of hornblende crystals. The feldspar and quartz feldspar porphyry dikes are spatially related to the mineralization.

The rocks are fractured and contain quartz-calcite veins which strike north and east, with dips 68 to 80 degrees to the south. A few of the veins contain pyrite, galena, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, and hematite.

The main vein, which strikes 029 degrees, dips 85 degrees west and plunges 55 degrees east, is 80 metres long and 5 to 60 centimetres wide. The vein occurs within hornblende monzonite, perpendicular to a nearby quartz porphyry dike, and contains massive and disseminated chalcopyrite, galena, pyrite with minor malachite and azurite. Bulk sampling from a trench on the vein assayed 9.6 per cent copper, 10.6 per cent lead, 11.2 per cent zinc, 0.33 per cent cadmium and 1941 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 2060).

A mineralized fracture zone within a gossan, 300 metres northwest of the main vein, contains pyrite and sphalerite. The fracture, which strikes 078 degrees and dips 36 degrees west, is 27 metres long and 3 to 120 centimetres wide.

Work History

In 1969, the LC 1-32 claims were owned by Geophoto Services Ltd. During the year magnetometer and electromagnetic surveys, soil and stream sediment sampling, and rock trenching were carried out. Sufficient work was conducted to satisfy assessment requirements for four years. Sun Oil Ltd. were then reported to be the owners of the LC-2 claims but no further work was conducted by Sun.

In 1980 Mafeking Minerals Ltd. held the Jony 1, 2 and 3 mineral claims containing 9, 18 and 9 units respectively. In 1980 MPH Consulting Limited completed a program of horizontal loop electromagnetic and magnetic surveys over a portion of the Jony Claim Group on behalf of Mafeking. Two good quality bedrock conductors were outlined on Grid B. One conductor was directly associated with the mineralized vein and correlates with a 200-gamma magnetic low. Three BQ diamond drill holes were completed totaling 139 metres. The shear zone that contained the vein in question, and the surface mineralization, was intersected at vertical depths of 13.7 and 30.5 metres respectively, no significant mineralization was encountered in either case. Diamond drilling was curtailed due to negative results, in that, the mineralization seen on surface did not extend to the depths hoped for. The drill core contained scattered, disseminated pyrite mineralization. Assay results on drill core were poor with only a trace of gold.

In 2020, Brixton Metals Corporation completed a program of geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, a 12.5 line-kilometre ground induced polarization survey, a 715 line-kilometre airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey and 19 diamond drill holes, totalling 5292 metres, on the area of as part of the Thorn property. Drilling was performed on the Outlaw (MINFILE 104K 176) occurrence area.
